Bootleg figures are common on marketplaces, and the photos in the listing are often copied from the real product. A few checks catch most of them.

Check the price

If a new figure is far cheaper than every other listing, treat it as a warning sign. Compare the price with two or three trusted retailers first.

Check the seller

Buy from the retailer itself or a seller with a long, well-reviewed history. Be careful with new sellers who ship from far away and have few reviews.

Check the box and the photos

Licensed figures normally show the maker’s logo and licensing information on the box, with sharp printing. Blurry text, odd colours or a missing logo are red flags. Ask for real photos if the listing only has promotional images.

Check the paint and finish

Fakes often have uneven paint, visible seams, a strong chemical smell, or a base that does not fit well.

Keep the evidence

If you receive a fake, take photos right away and ask for a refund through the store’s buyer protection.
